This guide applies to: Bolt Action Pen, Slim Bolt Action Pen, and Pencils.
Bolts for the Bolt Action Pen, Slim Bolt Action Pen, and Pencils are tightened to the point they won't come out but sometimes they can come loose. We use Knipex 86-03-125 pliers in the shop (they're awesome, highly recommended) to tighten the bolts but any pliers with parallel jaws will do the trick.
Note: Please do not use pliers with teeth as that can scratch the bolts. Parallel jawed pliers are preferred, but any smooth jawed or soft grip style pliers will work.
For most people, tightening the bolt once will fix the issue for good. If you find that a loose bolt is a repeating issue for you, see below on a more permanent solution.
For a more permanent fix:
- Take the ink refill and spring out of the pen so the mechanism isn't under tension.
- Unscrew the bolt entirely from the pen or pencil.
- Put a TINY drop of Loctite or Super Glue on the bolt threads (a toothpick makes a perfect applicator), screw it in finger tight and allow it to cure for a minimum of two hours. Be careful not to use too much and let it leak out into the pen. This will cause the mechanism to become glued in place.
- Reassemble the pen and continue using.
If you'd prefer to send your pen in for repair, please submit a request and we'll set you up with a return label.
