Ultem bolt carriers [the internal part which holds the bolt] may split after repeated use. We didn't have the right screw tension on an early batch but have since developed a new method to prevent overtightening.
If your bolt carrier breaks, there are a couple of options:
- We send you a replacement Ultem + Titanium internal and you can decide which option you prefer. Requires a T20 torx screwdriver and some basic handiness to install the new parts.
- You send us your pen for repair service. Turnaround could be up to 2-3 weeks depending on shipping. Fill out the attached form, put it in the package along with your pen, and send us the tracking number so we it's coming.
Ordering replacement parts
Shoot us an email at customerservice@tactileturn.com and include the order number and shipping address. If an address isn't provided we'll default to the one from your original Smooth Operator order.
How to install a new bolt carrier
Unscrew the tip of the pen with a firm grip and remove the spring and ink refill. The broken internal should fall out with gravity but could use a tap on a mousepad or cushion. If it still won't come out, use a T20 torx screwdriver to remove the end cap and clip.
Insert the new bolt carrier and line up the hole with the bolt slot. Slide it in place using a toothpick, Q-Tip, or something narrow.
Use your fingertips or smooth jaw pliers (these are the Knipex pliers we use) to tighten the bolt. If you're worried about the bolt falling out, you can use a TINY drop of Loctite or even super glue on the bolt threads before you screw it in finger tight and allow it to cure for a couple of hours.
