Bolts for the Bolt Action Pen, Slim Bolt Action Pen, and Pencils are tightened to the point they won't come out but sometimes they can come loose. We use Knipex Comfort Grip pliers in the shop (they're awesome, highly recommended) to tighten the bolts but any pliers with parallel jaws will do the trick.
Note: Please do not use pliers with teeth as that can scratch the bolts. "Parallel jaws" just means both sides of the pliers are flat.
Tightening the bolt with pliers will fix the issue more often than not but you may need to repeat the process from time to time.
For a more permanent fix:
- Take the ink refill out of the pen so the mechanism isn't under tension
- Unscrew the bolt entirely from the pen or pencil
- Put a TINY drop of Loctite or Super Glue on the bolt threads, screw it in finger tight, and allow it to cure for a couple of hours
- Actuate the bolt to ensure the mechanism isn't glued in place
If you'd prefer to send your pen in for repair, please submit a request and we'll set you up with a return label.
